We are currently taking a break from receiving new volunteers, probably until spring. As this year has been full of challenges, planning and financial struggles we need to simplify our way of doing things for some time. It has been a successful summer and it will help us to be here in the future, and for the autumn and winter we will hold space for small courses with the ones that have been living here long-term.

For opportunities for being here in the future please keep an eye on our website in the volunteering section and on the vacancies page where we will be posting when we are recruiting for special roles.

Course season volunteer

When coming as a volunteer during the course season, you are welcomed into a working community of around 40 persons. Daily life is relaxed and social, with plenty of opportunities to learn from each other. It will be an opportunity for you to try what it’s like to live in an environment where presence and celebration are part of the core values.

As a volunteer you pay 100 SEK per night. The minimum stay is two weeks, but many volunteers choose to extend for a longer period of time after being here for a while. The accommodation is in smaller dorm rooms with bunk beds, housing up to 4 people in each room.

You are here not only to serve your own personal development, but also the development of the participants who join our courses throughout the year. Service to the course participants means giving the gift of providing a safe, clean and nourishing environment, within which they can relax and let the process unfold.

As a volunteer you commit to:

    • 5 hours of working meditation, 5 days per week
    • Daily morning gathering
    • Sharing two times per week
    • 30 minutes of community cleaning two times per week
    • 2 hours of community service per week

The volunteer experience is supported by a program of activities. This can be dance, yoga, singing, meditation, reading groups, movie nights, and a whole variety of practices that provide daily opportunities for exploring ways of meeting oneself in an authentic and meaningful way. The daily morning/evening program is decided and put together by the community. You are most welcome to bring your ideas, gifts and to share your enthusiasm in your area of interest!

While at Ängsbacka, we invite you to explore the mindset of service. Not as a concept, but rather as a way of living. Service to your fellow staff/volunteers, to course and festival participants, and to yourself.

We believe that through selfless service, through connecting back to our deep need to contribute to the world, we grow in compassion and joy.

Working meditation

Working Meditation is our shared daily practice of service and togetherness. We encourage everyone to use their working hours as active explorations of the present moment. Everything that comes to our minds and bodies is welcomed into the moment. We support each other to remain light-hearted and connected.

Ideally, the time spent in work is happy and fulfilling, regardless of task. The realisation to be discovered is that the enjoyment of the task comes from within ourselves, not from the nature of the task.

Sharing is at the heart of Ängsbacka, and supports everybody here. It is considered a sacred space for speaking and listening from our hearts. It invites you to be seen in your truth and  to see others in theirs, without judgement or fixing.

One person shares, while the others sit in silence paying attention to the person sharing. Everyone in the group will have the same amount of time available to them, and everything that is said or done stays in the group. We do not bring it up again outside of sharing.

Sharing is an essential and honored practice at Ängsbacka, and we welcome you to this special space with the sensitivity and open-heartedness that is at its core.

Working teams

Our menu, prepared with love by our volunteers and chefs, is a combination of vegetarian, raw or vegan diet depending on the season, with many of the products used are locally and/organically produced.

As a kitchen volunteer, you have the opportunity to work alongside professional chefs and learn about healthy nutritive and organic food. Working in the ‘heart of the house’ you learn how we support our international and open-hearted guests from a space of loving service.

As a housekeeping volunteer, you learn how it is to clean, beautify and care for our rooms and buildings, and provide a foundational space for the guests to relax into on their personal journey.

Practical support

You can apply if you have trade skills, such as carpentry, electricity, plumbing, or building. Work included maintenance work on the property, including maintaining large electrical appliances such as the dishwasher, monitoring and taking care of the wood-fired heating system, and ongoing building and renovation projects.

There are certain volunteer positions at Ängsbacka that require special skills or more responsibility. When coming for a ‘special role’ you make a longer commitment, and in exchange for your commitment and competence, we give you a free stay at Ängsbacka. Special roles we concider are roles as Practical support, Community chef, Kitchen coordinator, Festival Manager assistant, Booking assistant, Marketing assistant and Host.
